From Python To Yogi - The Naming Journey Of My Blog
The name "PyYogi" comes from putting two ideas together. My strong connection to the Python programming language, and the image of a "yogi" – someone who embodies knowledge, a calm focus, and a deliberate way of thinking.

On Naming Things
We name things to give labels to ideas, just like we give names to functions in programming. It's easier to recall a label associated with an idea instead of describing the whole idea again. A name represents identity, meaning, history, and relationships. The process of naming involves identifying the key features of the object or idea being named, its relationships to known things, and the categories it's attached to. I came up with the name Pyyogi (Py Yogi) with similar thoughts in mind.
Background
I've been working in software development for quite some time now, and I've had the chance to use various programming languages through out my carrier. Sometimes I used them in a shallow way to bring an idea to life, while other times I aimed for a deep understanding of the underlying mechanisms. After all these years, I've found that the philosophy of Python resonates with me the most.
Outside of software development and my professional life, I decided to explore exercise techniques to address some postural issues. I tried a few different things, including weightlifting, free weight training, yoga, kettlebells, and calisthenics. What I discovered is that yoga is an activity I can see myself sticking with in the long run. For free weight training, I even bought a few kettlebells.
A Pythonic Yogi Py Yogi
On my way home from work one day, I was thinking about my coding and this exercise stuff, and the name Pyyogi
just came to me. I connected Py
with Python
and Yogi
with someone who's knowledgeable and thinks calmly and carefully. It seemed like such a common name, I assumed its domain name would be taken. But when I got home, I checked the website domain pyyogi.com
, for my surprise it was for sale! So I bought it right away, thinking I'd eventually use it to share my notes online for myself or anyone interested.
